Yoga the golden legacy is most underutilized art in its own motherland. The west has understood the importance of this physical, mental and spiritual discipline. Moreover they have also been able to customise and commercialize it to suit their palate. For example there is an entire paraphernalia associated to make yoga a comfortable experience. You have a wide range of clothes to choose from, yoga mats of different textures, colours and cool comfortable places of practice are called studios which have personal trainers. Irony right as yoga was an art form to be performed in austerity to attain peace and nirvana. So now are very own country is buying this westernized yoga instead of going back to the roots and understanding in the true sense our golden legacy. How do we do it?? Like they say back to the basics. Yoga should be made a compulsory 15 minutes activity in government and private educational institutions. It has countless benefits, for instance it helps kids to concentrate better therefore they can perform better in their day to day curriculum. Another action point could be to make yoga compulsory of all government and private offices, Banks, medical institutions, municipal corporations etc . . . . It must be a mandatory 15 minute activity. In fact for starters and to set it as an emphatic example Prime minister along with the entire parliament and his entourage of bureaucrats should start doing this every morning and it should telecast live on the national network. The economic gap between the urban and the rural sector is increasing exponentially .Success stories of fresh economic trends such as micro financing and increase in number of tiny industries in the rural sectors suggest that there is a huge untouched market at the foundation of the economic pyramid .
The rural and cottage industries which constitute the indigenous sector of our industries are spread through out the length and breadth of our country. Various designs to sustain, modernize and further develop these industries are being taken today .Small scale industry is playing a pivotal role for in balancing the regional economic development. Problems encountered by tiny industries.
Though the government is doing a lot to promote these industries a mammoth work has still to be done for modernization and up gradation of this sector.
Marketing of the products manufactured is most important. Proper showcase of the goods fetches good price .The government should organize special trade fairs where this sector can exhibit there merchandise and get further business.
Export of the products will help to bring giant buyers to the local market. The small businessmen should be made aware of the export policies and government should train these people to make there goods of international standards’ very good example of this is the manufacturing hub of China which changed the face of China’s economy for ever.
Infrastructure of the rural areas must be improved .Geographical barriers should be overcome so that the buyer can reach the rustic countryside. The tiny industries product sales should not be restricted to the local market .proper roads, transportation services, power supply etc must be provided so that this industry can grow.
Procurement of raw material must be made simpler .the government should strive to provide this sector the raw materials in subsidized rates. It can be done through cooperative societies or the village panchayats.Good quality raw material should be provided so that the quality of the product is not compromised with.
Financial assistance is the founding stone for rural sector .the concept of micro financing has benefited the tiny industries. Banks should give loans directly to the entrepreneurs so that they do have to borrow money from the greedy loan sharks who give money on high interest rates.
Market survey, quality improvement and strategy development is very essential for the survival of this unorganized sector. The government should from time to time educate the people about the evolution of the demands of the markets so that this sector should not suffer due to lack of knowledge.
Thus we see that while many rural areas continue to experience depopulation and economic decline, others are facing rapid in-migration, as well as employment and income growth. Much of this growth is due to the presence and use of amenity resources, broadly defined as qualities of a region that make it an attractive place to live and work. The government should try its best to support this so that India can spearhead its growth to become a developed nation from a developing one.

THE BUCK STOPS HERE

Actually I have no idea where the buck stops. Once upon a time Rajiv Gandhi's 64cr scam which by the way is still being probed looked huge but now Raja ji beats all .The uncrowned king of scamsters has made India poorer by just 170,000 Cr.

Is corruption synonymous to the political infrastructure of our motherland? Recently a CWG official who is neck deep in the scam involving the most uncommon wealth games said"Thoda bahut to chalta hai".Do you have an idea how much this so called Thoda has cost the common Indian taxpayer's pocket? A whooping 70,000cr by the official figures. If this is Thoda ,I hope to live to see what is bahut?
Irony lies in the fact that same common man forgot all about the loot of his hard earned money after the eye wash provided by the opening and closing ceremony of the games. Just today the newspaper reads about an IAS official who demanded sex or money as bribe to clear files which came to him for consideration.
Every week a new scam is unearthed. Like the Friday movie release the breaking news débuts a fresh skeleton from the cuboard.And believe me the more I read the more I feel that it’s just the tip of the iceberg. Even god may not have the exact figures about the amount of money these tainted politicians may have stacked in their Swiss bank lockers.
Thus the million dollar question is when this chalta hai attitude will will evolve into bas bahut ho gaya.
So is the situation grim?
YES
Is the law of the land strong enough to bring these khadi clad culprits to book?
YES
When and how that’s a conclusion Ill love to pen down someday.

Book ,TV or Internet

Well yes this statement is so true .In today’s world where the craving for knowledge ,information and entertainment is so high don't you feel a little left out if you just sit back with a book; where as on the other hand your idiot box may provide you all these three in a package in just a few minutes.
Children know so much because of television and so by not allowing them to watch TV I think parents would be shunning their own kiddos from an exposure which cannot be fathomed.
There was a time when people thought that TV was killing books and now is the time when there is a huge debate that internet is killing the books.
The truth is all the three have their own merits and demerits .And as far as books are concerned neither TV nor internet can match the depth of knowledge provided by the books.
Or for that matter don't you enjoy reading your favorite author sitting lazily on Sunday afternoon on your favorite couch. Nothing can beat a nice book read when you are on a journey.
Concluding just want to say that all the three TV, INTERNET, and BOOKS have their own group of takers.
So what’s my take? Well all the three dishes on the platter are great you just need to enjoy them at the right time and in the right proportion

INVINCIBLE MIND by Arati Katre

Its not every day that we come across books like this one and frankly speaking I am not a person who would pick up a hand book of good thoughts and ways to live.
In fact I picked this book because I wanted to read the experiences of the writer as the author is somebody with a lot of experience in the field I have just stepped in.
Nevertheless this book has actually defined the literal meaning of the saying "Don’t judge a book by its cover”
To begin with yes, it is a book which is a must for all youngster's study table as the author herself mentions in the preface but I think this book is equally useful to people of all ages .As all of us at some point in life have experienced rejection, dejection and consequently depression .That is when a book like ‘Invincible Mind’ comes to your rescue.Off course just reading a book of sermons does not solve the issues and at the end of the day as the author herself says “ work ,work, work – let this be your motto”
The best chapter which appealed to me the most was “Live alone in your mind”.
This is something which I personally believe strongly in and still have not been able to develop this virtue in my character. This is especially necessary to be developed by women .In today’s day to day life when working woman keep juggling between home and work there are numerous people who try to influence the decisions taken by her according to their advantage. I like the way the author emphasises in simple language why and how to inculcate this habit.
Concluding I would like to say ,read this book first to check out how many of the qualities mentioned by the author is a part of your character and how many you have to still work on building .
Secondly somewhere down the line one tends to start doubting weather the habits one has still holds true and valuable in these changing times where it is very easy to get distracted from the right path .So read the book to reaffirm you faith and confidence in the good human being hidden inside you.
The only thing I feel which could have made the book a little more interesting and inviting would have been real life experiences (not only of the author but also of those people who she came across in her long career)amalgamated with the morals learnt at the end of the day.

The genuine Indian

It’s been quiet sometime that I have blogged .but today’s happenings at the parliament forced me to pen down a few words. No I don’t want to remember this day as the day when the GREAT NUCLEAR DEAL brought a trust vote motion in the lower house of the parliament and how the prime minister won it with a single minded pursuit. Agreed a very impressive victory. I even don’t want to remember this day as the day when wades of cash were waved in the respected house of the largest democracy. Or how the prime minister of the country is not allowed to speak in the house. I don’t want to remember this day when all the channels featured long debates called this as the great Indian deal bazaar.
Then one would wonder what makes this day memorable for me .I shall always remember this day when a member of parliament who represents the face of young India stood up and said that I would like to speak ‘ as an Indian’.
Yes Rahul Gandhi made a very important and very conveniently forgotten point by the politicians. I would like to ask them one small question,”What are you fighting for ?and most important for whose benfit’, yours, mine or this nations.
I know Rahul Gandhi’s speech forced all of us to think but I think the the hero of the day and the most touching speech was of Mr Omar Abdulla. How loud and clear was he when he said that, ‘till the last Muslim lives in the Kashmir valley the Hindus can fearlessly walk to Amarnath and offer the prayers. I am a Muslim and I am an Indian’.He is what I say A GENUINE INDIAN

Woman's Day

A very happy woman's day to all the netzians.

Fun &frolic as usual dominated the woman's day celebrations in Sun City this year too. Thanks to the very few volunteers it was a great success. Right from cooking competition where one had to make the speciality of her state and which was not an easy task for the simple reason that it had to be a four course properly arranged meal to the song and dances every moment was enjoyed. There was good music and children danced all the time as their mothers were busy in the various competitions being held simultaneously. Passing the parcel and statue dance was just to name a few. Not to forget the stalls that were set up selling clothes food (chats, dhokla and yummy samosa) and other house decorating stuff.A special mention should be made about our evergreen enthusiastic senior citizens who sang a beautiful group song.What best to end the night than with the Tam bola? After which many of the couples went to the stage and danced for a while.It was certainly a very well managed programme and the volunteers must be appreciated and thanked for the time and energy they spent to organise the event.

मुझे याद नहीं कि मेरी नींव किसने रखी 'किसने मुझे बोया ,बस इतना याद है की एक बर्रे पूरे परिवार में मेरा जन्म हुआ था । घने जंगल के उच्चे पदों के बीच म्मधुर बचपन गुजरा .सुरम्य वातावरण ,सुंगंधित हवा के झोकों ने मेरे कोमल कोपलों को सहलाया था।
आनंद के दिन और मनमोहक रातें हुआ करती थी।
एक दिन मैंने देखा कि कुछ महिलाएं सजी हुई थालियाँ लेकर पदों के झुरमुट कि तरफ चली आ रहें हैं । में असमन्जस में था .यह क्या हु रह है? फिर एक महिला ने दिया जलाया । आग देख कर में टू भेयभित ही हो गया .मेरे बडे भैया ने फिर मुझे समझाया कीई यह महिलाएं हमारी पूजा करने आई हैं .उन लोगों ने मेरे साथ साथ मेरे भाई बहनो और मेरे दोस्तों कि भी पूजा की.कुंकी ऐसी मान्यता हैं की वन ,पेड़ पौधे देव तुल्य होतें हिन् .उनकी पूजा और रचा करनी चाहियें .पेड़ हमें अत्यंत बहुमूल्य चीजे प्रदान करतें हैं, जैसे फल ,फूल ,लकडी इत्यादी।
उन दिनों कि बात ही कुछ और थी.वन में हर्रे भरे जंगल और जंगल में अनेक तरह के पशू पश्ची उन्मुक्त विचरते थे .उन्हें किसी अकेतक का भय नही था .सबके लिए प्राप्त भोजन था .मेरी शाखाओं पर भी कई प्रकर के पंछियों का घरोंदा था .चिदियूं के चेह्चाहत से पुरा वन दिन भर गूंजता रहता था मनो किसी संगीत का निर्माण हु रह हैं ।
मानव जाती भी वनों का सम्मान और रचा में कोई क़सर नहीं छोडती। जंगल के महत्त्व से सबको अवगत करना अपना कर्तव्य मानती.एक बार टू में खुद जंगल में बससे गुरुकुल के गुरुजी कि बात सुनी थी .वह अपने शिस्यूं को बता रहे थे कि की कैसे जंगल हमारी सम्पदा हैं .कैसे जंगल बारिश के दिनों में पानी के भाव से भूमि के कटाव को रोकता हैं.कैसे पढ़ वायु कि शुद्ध करते हैं और जीवन वायू का निर्माण भी करते है।
फिर युग बदले समय ने करवट ली .जन्संक्यान बदने लगी टू लोगों ने जंगलों को कट कर घर बना शुरू कर दिए .अपनी इन्ही आखों से मैं अपने भी बन्धुओं कि निर्मम हत्या देखी है .आरी से अपनी मान का कलेजा कटते देखा है.आप सोच रहे होंगे कि में कैसे जीवेत रह गया?जिस चोव्धारी जी का घर मेरे पूर्वजो कि लाश पर बना उनके पोते को मुझ से प्यार हो गया इसलिए उसके निवेदन पर मुझे छोड़ दिया गया ,सही भी था आखिर आगन में एक पेड़ टू हों है चाहिऐ इथिहस का सचात्कर करवाने के लिए ।

और इस तरह सौ बरस बीत गए.इन बूढी आखों ने अपने नीचे मुग़ल बद्षा के कारिन्दों कि मुनादी होते देखी और देखी हिन्दुस्तानी हुकूमत पर ईस्ट इंडिया कंपनी कि जीत।

Tarare Zameen Par

I think it is the first time that I am commenting or making a remark about a movie which I have watched but something about this film forced me to pen down my thoughts .Not many of the so called bollywood flicks ring a bell in my mind so strong and for so long as did this directorial debut of amir khan.
TZP unquestionably is a very poignant picture. Its not only the story of Ishan that moved me as he was a patient of dyslexia trapped in a labyrinth of expectations and his failure to live up to them. It was actually the small speech that Amir gave to Ishan's parents which was sole stirring. I am sure that many of us would identify with the kind of anxiety Amir was talking about.
The pressure to always be THE NUMBER ONE. True not even marks like 95% or 96% brings recognition to the student because somewhere in the competition there is a98% standing. Ironically not even 100% is an adequate amount these days because quite a few students manage even that. So as amir said "lage hue hai sab ungli ko kheech kar lambi karne mein".
TZP is essentially a movie which parents teachers and children must watch.
For me the movie has reaffirmed my conviction that not all of us can become doctors or engineers best but yes we all can try and outshine wherever we are .

'Karnataka to soon become Bihar-like'

It’s very abominable that a bench which represents one of the most respectable and esteemed office in the government of India can pass such an irresponsible remark.
As it is evident the comment was derogatory and judges who are law makers and preservers giving such kind of reference is distressing.
The most disheartening thing in this is how come a justice like KL Manjunath could allow such a statement to be passed in his court and then let it circulate in the media. What about checking the facts about the rate of crime in other states leave apart thinking about hurting the sentiments of the people of that state? (Bihar)
I belong to Bihar and I have visited almost half of Indian states. I agree that the condition of Bihar is bad then most of the other states but to be very honest there are states whose conditions are worse.
The crime rate in Bihar is less than that in UP and Delhi just to name a few. Then why to single out one state?

India has been a land where we have followed the age old saying “mehman bhagwan saman hota hai” but the shameful act in Hyderabad has once again proved that India has a long way to go before it can call itself the most populous liberal democracy in the world. And to top it all the heinous act has occurred just few days before we are going to celebrate our 60Th independence day. The day when Indians were declared free from the shackles of the British rule, but are we really free? For this act has testified that we still are slaves’ .not physically but mentally. We still cannot think beyond the barriers of caste class and creed. The shackles have just changed their form .Tagore had said
‘Where the mind is without fear and the head is held high
Where knowledge is free
Into that heaven of freedom my father
Let my country awake”
Is this the kind of freedom our forefathers fought for? Or dreamt of? A nation where the basic freedom of speech and expression is being attacked by few narrow minded and a lot of times politically motivated people. A handful of religious fanatics decide that what must be the outlook and thinking of the entire country. Summarizing what is right and what is wrong? And this problem should not be categorized as a Hindu’s or a Muslim’s, both are equally responsible.
Concluding I would like to appeal to the youth of India to please grow up. Please do not blindly follow age old traditions. Please do not follow the so called “dharm key thekadaro ko” without judging their decisions with an open mind .Lets welcome new ideas and visionaries like Nasreen so that we can proudly call our nation a free democratic and secular country.

One of the postings in a reputed news daily read"Do you think our moral values are undergoing a change when it comes to man woman relationship." and next day came the news that two of mumbai schools have banned girl boy touch.A very thought provoking scenario,isn't it.It makes one pause and ponder that the India we were born and brought up in and the India we live in today;are they congruent?
First and foremost in this day and age when students have mass media and the net at their disposal, does a ruling like this make sense.Secondly in today's modern India the definitions of morality,values,good conduct and self discipline have undergone a drastic change.Gone are the days when marriage was considered as one and only social institution under which a man and woman could establish their decision to live as husband and wife by legal commitments, religious ceremonies, etc. Adultery by any sex was condemned and seen as very disgraceful .But today the scenario has totally changed.Thanks to live in relationships,gay marriages ,lesbian weddings and even contract marriages.No responsibilities, no commitment and no strings attached.Stay out of the wedlock and still have the companionship of the opposite or the same sex and you can even walk out of the arrangement according to your convenience.Gradually our statement of family is broadening and modernising.even Indians talk about same sex marriages and in fact the legalization of it.ans the people who oppose it are branded as orthodox,backward ans dumb.
Well India has witnessed many changes in the recent past.Be it political ,economical or social.The media(electronic or print),advertisements ,Internet have become an integral part of an Indian's life.They play a major role in mouldings his thoughts ,his outlook and his individuality.Today teens by 13 are aware and well informed about topics like sex,AIDS,HIV,lesbians and gays.
So the normal outlook of society is undergoing reform.its very difficult to justify the changes as good or bad for it depends and varies from person to person .
the Indian society can be roughly categorized into 3 sections.First the liberal minded people who take the liberty of calling themselves modern and outgoing secondly conservative thinkers and third section is of people who hardly have time to think about all this.For them the trinity of roti kapda and makan still matters the most.
Summarising the bitter truth ;yes the moral values are undergoing a sea of change and mind you change should not be resisted.For gradual change is the founding stone of evolution.A man and woman not only marry and make a family but in the process they build the society too.A person cannot turn his back to the society and say I don't care about it .We all are responsible to the society. A good society is one which makes its own norms not to create barriers between people but for their betterment and happiness.
In my opinion good changes should be advocated so that Indian society can break free from its age old baseless, stinking taboos.A man and woman should not be forced to live in a marriage just because its socially accepted.Remember fractured marriage don't make happy homes.A divorced woman or a spinster should not be considered as available.Bring a change which encourages widow remarriage ,inter caste marriage and even helps prostitutes to settle into wedlock.
Believe me if we remove few wrong aspects from our culture we have a rich legacy to preserve and hand it over to the next generation.Lets not ape the west and corrupt the golden culture our ancestors bestowed on us.So don't be sponges absorbing every thing from the west but be like a sieve picking the best and leaving the rest.

Being an Indian.

Reading the Newspaper in the Houston public library somebody remarked ‘these……..Indians’. He happened to be reading the ‘Richard Gere’ kiss controversy. The words hit me hard. Immediately all my senses were alert. A pang of anxiety and anger struck me and to be honest I felt hurt. But as most of the timid people like me would agree to I chose to ignore the comment and walk past. But deep down somewhere the comment kept bothering my conscience.

Mark my words its not for the first time and I am not the only one who exhibits such symptoms.Infact each and every one who hails from the subcontinent suffers from this syndrome. It’s just that some of us choose to speak about it and others except it as a repercussion of staying in a foreign land.
.
Every thing spoken, written or for that mater even mentioned about the country literally and metamorphically is our personal issue. As if somebody is talking about us. Negative or positive hardly makes the difference. The important thing is that it is about India. Be it a bollywood release, India’s devastating performance at world cup or who would be the next president. Each and every issue captivates our attention.
We love to celebrate all our festivals, eat all the fried snacks (considered unhealthy food in west), spices, pickles, papad and countless other delicacies. Believe it or not but almost all the Indians residing in US prefer home cooked Indian food to any other food .To this day an Indian woman no mater for how long she has resided in foreign land will happily say that her favorite attire is sari.

People spend almost their entire life in faraway lands but when ever one asks them about their home land there is sudden twinkle in their eyes. All their memories are fresh as if they are talking about something which happened just the day before. They meticulously mention all the details about the place so that on can have a crystal clear image of their native land. It may sound funny but all Indians can endlessly talk about India and every time they talk the excitement in their tone fills one with mixed emotions of happiness and sorrow .Its very nostalgic.

If one would summarize India is not merely a land mass; it is the legacy of rich golden heritage which flows in blood of an Indian .Truly a little India breaths in each and very Indian no matter where he stays. That I guess is the essence of being an Indian.

"Teens and online chat - is it a good thing?

Everyday the cyberspace witnesses exchange of millions of messages, people participating in online chat groups newsgroups, surfing the World Wide Web and numerous other online activities. Teens are no exception to the phenomenon. For many of them the information highway is the most sought destination for friendship and relaxation.

The online world opens the door to freedom to chat and befriend anyone irrespective of race, nativity, age and sex.
A recent research in U.S shows that opposite to the popular belief that teens only use net for online chat they also use it for school assignments news hobbies health queries and lastly for entertainment.
But the picture is not as rosy as it looks. yes this package of electronic media also brings with it hidden hostilities .and these veiled perils keep surfacing now and then only to stun us and force us to introspect that ‘is online chat good’? After all who not heard about cyber bullying and pedophiles?
Well if we go by any of the popular census it’s evident that online chat is becoming a menace for the youngsters. Pew Internet and American Life Project confirms that 83%of U.S. teenagers are online at any time .in The cyber world too just like the non cyber world some people you encounter online might try to take advantage of you physically or financially. Anonymous chat room users interested in more than merely chatting ask teenagers for information about themselves ,their families or where they live-personal information that shouldn’t be given.

Often they use these information’s to start illegal or indecent relationships or to hamper an individuals private or public life.
Thus the answer to the problem I believe is what measure one takes to protect oneself in an online chat room .How do you use your wit to avoid the pitfalls.Concluding it can be said that online chat is good provided one is aware of the traps and he/she uses his brain to keep clear of them. After all the motto is same cyber or the non cyber world don’t talk to strangers

Hindi and India

I am staying in U.K with my husband as he is working here.The week before last I met some of his friends.They had arranged a small party after the badminton match they played at the leisure centre.The topics at the party wavered from their clients to the net profit of their company to what is better chicken or paneer.All of a sudden somebody suggested the topic that; should Hindi be enforced to be learned by the Indians.For the first time in my entire life I witnessed so much of resentment against Hindi.Somebody even said that," I don't take Hindi as the language of India .I am a south Indian I know English I preserve my culture I help people as an when required to the best of my capacity and I don't think not knowing Hindi is a communication barrier for me so it implies that Hindi is not my cup of tea."I don't know weather he was right or wrong ,and I am strictly not contradicting anybody I am just trying to clear my concepts about the significance of Hindi as a language of today's India .
Hindi as far as my knowledge of history supports me originates from the word Hindustan.In ancient times it was referred to as "Jo boli hind ki sarzameen par boli jati hai".Considered as one of the richest literature's of the world it has writers like Premchand, poets like Chaturvedi and Dinker.No I am not trying to justify the language's grandeur what I am trying to do is just see it with a new light.
I am not against any regional language.What I want to say is that why can't Hindi be the uniforming language for the Indians ? Why today we are ready to accept English as the language to communicate through out India but to learn Hindi we say it should not be enforced?Don't you think that if all the states of India start talking in their own language what a pandemonium will it cause?Why is Hindi considered as a language of north India and not as the language of our country.Those citizens who think that they are preserving their regional culture and language and that is more than enough I would like to ask you a simple question if all the states of India start thinking in this way who will preserve the national language? So to conclude I would like to say that you must know your regional language but the nation is above the region so you must know the national language.Thats Hindi .My friends how long will you acknowledge a foreign language ,(English) as your language.Doesn't a prospering country like India with its rich culture and heritage deserve its own linguistic identity?
